Ray Phillips continues his solo music amongst other projects

Ray Phillips

It was after Ray recorded his solo CD, Judgement Day in 2011, that he decided to go back on the road gigging once more, but after three years of travelling around the UK he felt he would do better to go back into his recording, and record a second solo CD. Ray came to the conclusion this would be a far more productive way forward. He did his last gig at the Butler in Reading (with Tom Prince on bass) on the 19,12,2014.

Judgement Day

After a phone call from Ned Edwards a former guitarist with Van Morrison, Ray found himself studying the possibility of the two of them working together. Ned had spent seven years working with Van Morrison he was also the lead guitarist in the first band Ray formed after leaving Budgie in 1973 (Ray Phillips Woman). Ned and Ray toured the length and breath of the UK for some three years and built a sizeable reputation, before Ray left his own band.

Ned Edwards, who now lives in Wylie, is a veteran of the Van Morrison band, the Red Hot Pokers, and Red Bean and Rice, providing vocals and guitar. After many years, Ned contacted Ray and they went for a pint at Rays local pub. Both Ray and Ned kept in touch from then on.

It was in January 2015 when Ray asked Ned if he would pop up to listen some of his new songs he had written. Ned was only to happy to get involved with Ray's new venture. Now Ray's sole intention is to dedicate the next, however long it takes, to produce another solo CD and to collaborate with Ned in what ever way they both can.

From Ray's point of view this is a fantastic opportunity to reunite with a highly respected and multi talented musician a great guitarist, singer and song writer, and an old friend. Its another musical journey in the life of Ray Phillips and Ned Edwards, along with Tom Prince.

In addition to his musical interest, Ray keeps busy on his farm in Wales and has been writing a great deal about his experiences as a rock musician over the years, from the earliest Budgie days onwards. The result of this? Well watch this space! Check out Ray's News here as it's updated on his Facebook page.
